Name: martinSent: 01/30/2010 07:32:14 pmHi all, Kevin Ashman - TV's and Winchester's very own Egghead, Mastermind and Brain of Britain is the quiz master for the Big Quiz at the Winchester Guildhall, Saturday 13th February at 7.pm. tickets £5 from Janet at the Hyde Tavern 01962 862592 or Janet_theodore@hotmail.com. You'll be very welcome....Are you up to the challenge!!!!???? See you there! Name: DenSent: 11/10/2009 05:13:16 pmThis has been concerning me for some time now...
Why, in the case of an equal points score in the Croft Estates Challenge, is the league position decided on points difference rather than points scored? Considering every team is faced with the same questions at the same time each week it would seem to me better to put the team with the most correct answers above those with less.
By using points difference the quality of the opposition (i.e. how well they performed) has an unnecessary impact on league positions.
What does anyone else think?

We are auditioning NOW and will be filming the series between 15th - 20th June. Name: DenSent: 03/05/2009 01:48:52 pmCongratulations to the Eclipse on winning the League - well done indeed.
Also to the Allstars on their successful Challenge campaign. Name: Uncle BellySent: 01/10/2009 01:17:54 pmThe Alfie's clock has always been a bit contentious but I know, as do most players, that's it's intended to be a light-hearted bit of fun, and most of us take it as such. As for increasing the time allowed for answers, and also the start time, I'm happy to go with the flow - it's our league and we can change the rules to suit the majority - let me know what y'all think!! Name: NormanSent: 01/10/2009 11:26:59 amThanks to the Alfie for an excellent evening, and a trouncing in the cup, however, use of the clock really does take the edge off what is otherwise an excellent evening for me. No criticism of the ladies, they are just following the rules, but if you don't know the answer, 30 seconds just isn't enough to discuss and try and drag an educated guess from the back of someone's brain. I know that the guys at the Alfie said that there are some pubs that have absolutely no imposition of any timing restrictions, and that makes the evenings drag (fair point), but at most pubs, the question master uses discretion well, and does not let it drag on too long. If there must be a timing rule, I propose that we have one minute for the answer (and say 30 seconds if it gets passed over) - perhaps an 8.15 start to make sure away teams can get back to their local for a last drink if they want to. Does anyone else feel the same way (after all most of us live by the clock all day - lets enjoy our leisure time)? We are at the Alfie again this week and I look forward to another great evening, and no doubt another pasting!!! Name: Christopher RigbySent: 11/14/2008 07:55:21 pmHi there folks. For my sins I am the person responsible for setting the questions for the WQL.I was requested last season to add more showbiz type questions to the GK rounds and until now I have not been asked to change the format.Quiz for the 19th has been sent so the entertainment element is still to the fore. I have replaced the showbiz questions in the GK rounds for the quiz on the 26th. Might I suggest that in order to keep everyone happy why not have just one entertainment question in every GK round from then on. I welcome your views on the subject Best regards and happy quizzing Chris R
Name: Uncle BellySent: 11/14/2008 05:04:42 pmFair point, Den... It's best not to fiddle with the content too much as we rely on the experience of the question setter... but we have had many comments that felt that there was just too much entertainemnt in there at the moment... Name: DenSent: 11/13/2008 08:49:56 pmSwapping the entertainment for general knowledge! Why are we doing that??? Does that mean that they'll be no more Eurovision questions? Outrageous!
If I'd known you were taking requests I would have asked for a round on Winchester City FC every week!
Isn't it best to take pot luck with the questions rather than skewing them towards the subjects that some (and only some) members of the quiz league prefer? Name: DenSent: 10/16/2008 01:55:47 pmIt's great to get the season started again - I forgotten how much I enjoyed it until last night!
