18th March 2010: And there it is, the Alfie beat the Queen Inn in the final to secure a double for this season. Thanks for following this season and we’ll see you all in the autumn.
11th March 2010: So the cup final beckons again, and it’s exactly the same as last year! We’re all going to the King Alfred on wednesday to see the Alfie play the Queen. Last year’s final couldn’t have been closer or more controversial, so we’re drooling at this year’s prospect. Hope to see you there!
4th March 2010: And it’s all over in the leagues, but what a tight finish we have!! In the main league, congratulations to the Alfie who managed to beat the Queen Inn last night to claim the crown by the narrowest of margins, but a huge well done to the Queen for leading the table for most of the season. Third place sees a tie between three teams, separated only by the aggregate scores. In the Croft Challenge the Worthies just managed to sneak into top spot, with the Eclipse taking second, but again, a very tight finish at the top which could have been won by any of the top four (by coincidence a reversal of the top four places in the league!). Next week sees the re-arranged Croft Cup semi-finals, with the two champions meeting in one match to see who will play the Queen or White Swan.
25th February 2010: With just one more league game to go, we can’t remember such a close finish in both leagues. In the main league, it’s a two horse race with both the Queen and the Alfie facing each other in next week’s title decider. In the Croft Challenge, any one of the top four teams could still win it, and with tough matches for all of them next week we haven’t a clue how it’ll end up!
18th February: Some very close cup matches this week, going to the wire in two of the three games. But the White Swan managed to squeak through as the highest losers, so the draw for the semis on 10th March 2010 is Worthies AllStars vs. King Alfred and Queen Inn vs. White Swan; who are you expecting to see in the final??
11th February 2010: A few close games, but not for the Incredibles who suffered at the hands of the Alfie. It’s getting tight at the top and we are fairly certain who the top two will be, but not which way around! In the Croft Challenge, it’s still too tight to call, especially with the Eclipse having to travel to the St James in two weeks’ time. Next week sees the resumption of the Croft Knockout Cup, with the Trout off to play the Alfie again, and remember that the highest losing team go through to the semi-finals! In a passing note, a huge thank-you to the landlord of the Queens for helping us out and shaming the Post Office!
4th February 2010: A close win for the Trout sees the bottom three share the lower echelons of the table, whilst at the top the fight is on for second place for the four chasing teams... or could there be shock and the Queen lose their grip on the title?? In the Croft challenge, the Worthies managed the second perfect score against the Alfie (the Eclipse having got there first) to keep the table bubbling away nicely. With just three matches left, and the top teams playing each other again this week, we don’t know how it will all end! But we do know one thing from last night, our favourite egg SuperKev doesn’t like cucumber - bet that’s not on Wikipedia!
28th January 2010: A good win for the Queen sees them extend their lead at the top, but as we enter the run-in there’s still a chance for the others, especially as the top four all play each other next week. In the Croft Challenge, we can’t remember a time when it’s been so tight; just one point separating first from fifth!! Again, four of the top five play each other nest week, so it could well all change!
21st January: Still four points between first and fifth as the Queen In and St James extend their dominance, but watch out for the chasing pack. Next week sees a tough match between the Alfie and the Eclipse to see who consolidates third place. In the Croft Challenge it’s getting tighter and looking at next week’s fixtures we think it could be one of the tightest tables we’ve seen for years!
14th January: Snow still all around, but that didn’t stop a full set of matches being played this week (take note wimp-like football teams!!). Some close matches saw the favourites only just secure the points in the league matches, and with the Alfie dropping points, there’s just four points between first and fifth. With the Eclipse visiting the Queen Inn next week, we could see it getting even closer! In the Croft Challange, the Alfie continue atop, but the chasing pack are hot on their heels. Please note that we are looking into the claims that whilst Winchester was cut off from the rest of the world (due to half an inch of snow), the United Nations moved Belize to Africa.
7th January: Happy New Year!! Please note that because of the adverse weather condition, tonight’s Croft Cup matches are postponed; look at the fixtures to see the re-scheduled dates.
10th December: Close matches all round in the Croft Challenge Cup’s first round, but we have to lose two teams and out go the Coach & Horses and, by the smallest of margins, St James Incredibles. The White Swan get a second chance at the Worthies in the New Year, whilst the Trout have to make the trip once more to the Alfie looking for a cup upset. The match of the week when we start again next year has to be the Eclipse vs. Queen Inn. Have a Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year - see you all next year!!
3rd December 2009: Surprise result at the Alfie where the Queen Inn snatched an important win to leave the top three teams tied on 10 points apiece as we end 2009; couldn’t be more exciting!! In the Croft Challenge, no major surprises but still too tight to call between the top two at the halfway stage. Next week sees the first round of the Croft Knockout Cup, and remember the two highest losers go through to the next round as well !!
26th November 2009: Some tough questions this week, but the Trout left in a ‘Jovial’ mood after gaining their first league points of the season at the Worthies in a tightly fought match. Elsewhere, no real surprises means that the table is forming an almost predictable vista. We might sneak along to the Alfie next week and see how the top two teams slug it out, although with the St James playing the Worthies it’s almost too much for one week!! In the ol’ Croft Challenge, the top three maintain their 100% record, but one of those is sure to go next week, whilst the Coach stand a good chance of gaining their first win at home to the White Swan.
19th November 2009: No surprises this week, but a close match at the Worthies saw the Queen end up just losing it, although not quite as ‘Twelve Angry Men’. Well done to the Trout for getting off the mark in the Croft Challenge; can they do the same in the league at the Worthies next week?? Our match of the week next week is the Eclipse vs. the St James, and the Eclipse are clearly up for it as that’s where they turned up this week!!
12th November 2009: A close match at the Alfie saw them just win to move further up the table, whilst the St James maintained their 100% record with a win at the White Swan. In the Croft Challenge, the Eclipse took their revenge with a perfect score (well done!), whilst the St James sit atop the table with a game in hand. The Trout are still looking for their first points in any competition, but could get some next week, whilst all eyes are on the top-of-the-table clash of the St James vs Alfie. Our apologies to the St James and White Swan for not leting them have any Croft Challenge questions this week; the culprit will duly be taken outside and shot at dawn.
5th November 2009: The top four had some very close matches this week, with the Alfie and St James emerging as victors. We think next week’s match between the Alfie and the Eclipse is the week’s highlight, although there’s still plenty of opportunity for upsets elsewhere ,and we have our fingers crossed for the Trout who have yet to score any points!
29th October 2009: We think SuperKev’s back as the Alfie trounced the Trout this week! More wins for the Worthies and St James see them keep their 100% record in both competitions, although the Queen Inn and Eclipse shared the spoils in a very close encounter. Points will be dropped next week as the top four all play each other in what could be described as ‘four-pointer’ matches, whilst some of the other teams will be looking to lose their ducks!
22nd October 2009: And we’re off..!! Good starts for some teams, with a surprise defeat to the Alfie by the Coach & Horses which leaves them looking for their first league points, although they won their Croft Challenge match. Good to see the newcomer Queens Inn get a win, although the other newcomer, the White Swan, couldn’t quite match it. Giggles at the Eclipse where the Worthies won, despite linking a body part to some monocles (can you work out which one?) Next week’s interesting match is at the White Swan where the Worthies’ captain plays his old team-mates - should be fun!!
